PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element material and an organic electroluminescent element superior in luminescence efficiency and capable of high-brightness luminescence. SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element comprises a luminescent layer formed with a single or plural layers of organic compound thin film and held between an positive electrode and a negative electrode, opposed to each other, the organic compound thin film having at least one layer containing at least one type of organic metal complex having both ionic coordinate linkage formed by at least one nitrogen anion and metal cation and coordinate linkage formed between at least one nitrogen atom or chalcogen atom and a metal.
