PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely regulate the track width and throat height, to enable the magnetic path length to be reduced, and to prevent data from being written in an area other than the one to be recorded as well as preventing saturation of a magnetic flux in the middle of the magnetic path. SOLUTION: A recording head is provided with a lower and upper magnetic pole layers 8, 11 including pole parts oppositely facing each other through a recording gap layer 10 and with a thin film coil 13 which is partially passed through these layers and which is spirally wound around the upper magnetic pole layer 11. The upper magnetic pole layer 11 consists of a pole part layer 11a and a yoke part layer 11c. A part of the thin film coil 13 is disposed on the side of the pole part layer 11a. The pole part layer 11a is provided with a track part 11a1, a connecting part 11a2 and a contact part 11a3. The contact part 11a3 includes branch parts 11a31, 11a32, between which an end part 11a4 is formed prescribing a throat height.
