Ultra-violet lamp for treating continuously moving material includes sensors to monitor radiation intensity and to keep it constant

A radiation source, especially a UV lamp (11) for cross-linking continuous material (12), is controlled (14) by signals from sensors (13) that monitor the radiation intensity across the width of the material in order to keep it at a set constant value. The sensors (13) can be placed behind the material, at the side or traversed across the width, depending on the transparency or reflectivity of the material. An Independent claim is also included for the method of irradiating continuous materials by monitoring the radiation intensity at selected positions and comparing the average with a set value to control the process.
