The method involves evaluating the displacement of a reference speckle marked and selected on a speckle image using an evaluation unit (9). A sensor (7) detects the displacement of the reference speckle which is evaluated as a change in the measured sample (1). The measured sample is subjected to external force for measuring its length change. The surface (2) of the sample is partially illuminated with laser light of uniform intensity from a laser unit (3). The speckle image is formed using the light reflected from the illuminated surface of the sample through an optical component (8) set over the light-sensitive sensor. An Independent claim is also included for a contactless measurement device for measuring the deformation of a sample.
