As an industrially advantageous process for forming a carbon-carbon bond at the 5-position of oxazole is provided a process for preparing compounds of general formula (III) or salts thereof (wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, optionally substituted hydrocarbyl, or an optionally substituted heterocycli c group; R3 is an electron-withdrawing group; and R4, R5 and R6 are each hydrogen or optionally substituted hydrocarbyl), characterized by reacting a compound of general formula (I) or a salt thereof (wherein each symbol is as defined above) with a compound of general formula (II) or a salt thereof (wherein each symbol is as defined above) in the presence of an acid or a ba se.
