A METHOD FOR ANALYSING METAL IN DROSS

A method for analysing aluminium in dross from dross sources such as a foundry furnace, holding furnace, electrolytic furnace or melt treatment unit. The method is based on measurement of the density and percentage weight of pure aluminium in dross samples from each individual dross source being used to establish a linear relation between density and pure aluminium based on the formula m = kρ" + a, where "m" is the quantity of pure aluminium, "ρ" is the dross density and "k" and "a" are constants linked to the quality/spread of the measurement results. In connection with subsequent measurements of the density of dross samples, the established linear relation alone makes it possible to analyse the percentage weight of aluminium in the samples.
