The method involves adjusting a transmitting power in a mobile communications system, in which base stations (NB) and mobile stations (UE) are connected over a radio interface. Parameters (CIR) of a transmission quality are determined from received signals (rx) during reception, and an adjustment of the transmitting power is requested in response to the parameters. An actual value (R1) is determined during reception through evaluation of a function of a signal variation (R) of the reception signals. The actual value is compared with a first threshold value (S1), and the frequency of the adjustment of the transmitting power is changed accordingly. The function of the signal variation is preferably an auto-correlation function.
