The roller for a papermaking or cardboard prodn. machine, especially a web spreader roller, has a rotating outer roller tube (12) with an inner body (14) through it supported at both ends without rotation. The rotating roller tube mantle (12) is supported by bearings on the inner body (14) at the center and both end zones. The center (16) and the side (18) bearing supports have a relative radial movement to each other to set the bend of the roller mantle tube (12). The side bearing supports (18) cannot move radially in relation to the inner roller body (14), while the center bearing support (16) can move in relation to the inner body (14), or vice versa. The side bearings (18) each have at least one CARB bearing, and the center bearing (16) has at least one self-aligning roller bearing. The roller mantle tube (12) can be keyed at the center to a rotating inner body (14). The roller mantle bend is set by relative radial movements of the side bearings of the inner body and the mantle tube in relation to each other. The side bearings of the inner body (14) are fixed radially with the roller supports (22), and the side bearings of the roller mantle tube (12) have movement in relation to the roller supports (22), or vice versa. The inner body (14) of the roller assembly is a tube. The side bearings are moved together in the same direction, and by the same adjustment path length, or the side bearings (18) are moved independently of each other. The roller mantle tube (12) is more flexible for bending than the inner body (14), and is pref. of a fiber-reinforced plastics formed by spiral windings, using glass or synthetic fibers.
