Production of a sintered body made of a material for a thermoelectric element comprises preparing a block of the material for the element; containing the block in a longitudinal capsule so that the passage direction for the electrical current of the block agrees with the axial direction of the capsule; degassing the capsule; molding to reduce the cross-section vertically to the axial direction of the capsule to obtain a molded capsule with a green body of the block; heat treating to sinter the green body in the capsule; and removing the sintered body from the capsule. Preferred Features: The molding operation is carried out by hammering, rolling, and drawing, and is carried out step-wise to obtain a capsule of the required cross-section.
