PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of bore flushing originating from additional fuel injections and influence on the main fuel injection. SOLUTION: A cylinder fuel injection valve 111 of each cylinder is controlled by an electronic control unit(ECU) 30 of a Diesel engine. When NOx absorbed from a NOx occluding reduction catalyst 70 installed in the exhaust passage 3 is to be emitted, the ECU makes, in addition to the main fuel injection from the cylinder fuel injection valve, additional fuel injection in the expansion stroke or exhaust stroke so that the exhaust gas air-fuel ratio is made below the stoichiometric value of air-fuel ratio. The additional fuel injection takes place in a plurality of runs so that the amount of fuel injection of each run is supressed in a range not generating bore flushing and that the timing of additional fuel injection does not overlap the timings at which the other cylinders are making main fuel injection, and thereby it is prevented that the additional fuel injection influences the main fuel injection of any other cylinder. |
