METHOD FOR ENHANCING ANTIMICROBIAL ACTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To markedly enhance the antibacterial action ofβ-lactam antibiotic substance, particularly against the methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) by combining the antibiotic substance with another antibiotic compound bearing the tellimagrandin I skeleton. SOLUTION: (A) A compound bearing the chemical skeleton of tellimagrandin and/or (B) a compound bearing the chemical skeleton of corilagin are used in combination with (C) an antibiotic substance. In a preferred embodiment, the component A is tellimagrandin I, the component B is corilagin and the component C is one or two or more kinds of theβ-lactam antibiotic substances. The antibacterial action is preferably the bacteriostatic or bacteriocidal actions against MRSA. The component C is applied usually in a dose of >=1 mg/day/ adult on the solid weight basis. At this time, the components A and B are preferably used in combination in more than the equal amount based on the single dose of the component C in the solid basis.
