PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation in optical characteristics of a cellulose ester film formed by casting and simultaneously to improve the tear strength of the film to impart sufficient mechanical strengths thereto by incorporating flat particles into the film. SOLUTION: Preferably, the flat particles have aspect ratios of 2-7 and an average particle size of 0.2-10μm. Preferably, the flat particles have primary particle sizes of 0.2μm or lower, and preferably, the primary particles generate secondary particles and the final average particle size in the film is about 0.2-10μm. Preferably, the content of the flat particles is 5 mass % or higher of the total particles having an average particle size of 0.2-10μm. This cellulose ester film is prepared by casting a cellulose ester solution containing particles on a carrier, heating the cast solution, and drying a film peeled from the carrier while the film is being held in the width direction. Preferably, the amount of the residual solvent when the film is peeled is adjusted to 10 mass % or higher.
