Novel silicon-, boron- and nitrogen-containing amorphous fibres have a core, which consists of more than 80 vol.% of a three-dimensional vitreous network containing Si-N, B-N and optionally Si-O, Si-C, B-C, C-C, C-N and/or B-O bonds, and a coating which contains hexagonal BN crystals as well as Si bonded to O, B, N and/or C. Production of the above fibres involves thermal oxidation of silicon-, boron- and nitrogen-containing amorphous fibres which consist of more than 80 vol.% of a three-dimensional vitreous network containing Si-N, B-N and optionally Si-O, Si-C, B-C, C-C, C-N and/or B-O bonds. Also claimed are metal, alloy, glass and/or ceramic matrix composites and a process for their production, in which 30-70 vol.% of the composites consist of the above amorphous fibres.
|
