PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator capable of reducing size of a machinery room for disposing a hoisting machine. SOLUTION: A hoistway 1 and a machinery room 30 are formed as a continuos space, a support beam member 20 is supported by support 18a, 18b provided in a boundary part between a hoistway side wall 1a and a machinery room side wall 30a, the support beam member 20 is loaded with at least a hoisting machine to be supported, and especially the support beam member 20 is formed not to block up the whole of the floor surface, but like a beam, thereby securing a maintenance space having an enough area communicating from the hoistway 1 to the interior of the machinery room 30 on the side of the support beam member 20 and the hoisting machine 14.
