METHOD FOR RECOGNIZING HANDWRITTEN CHARACTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable highly accurate character recognition by removing unnecessary data by calculating certainty of traces of pen input and recognizing handwritten characters by omitting coordinates with uncertain traces for pen input from coordinates of the traces of pen input. SOLUTION: The coordinates on a planar input device 12 of a pen input device 11 are calculated by every determined time by a coordinate value calculating part 13. Characters of the coordinates calculated by the coordinate value calculating part 13 are recognized by a character recognizing part 14. A threshold to be a base to judge the certainty and uncertainty of pen traces is stored in a threshold storage part 16. Distance between continuous coordinates calculated by the coordinate value calculating part 13 is judged to be uncertain when it is longer than the threshold and judged to be certain when it is shorter than the threshold by a certainty of the pen traces calculating part 17. The coordinate values inputted by a pen are stored by a coordinate value storage part 18. Since the handwritten characters are recognized by omitting the coordinates with uncertain traces from the coordinates of the traces of pen input there by the character recognizing part 14, execution of erroneous recognition due to erroneous information of pen coordinates such as noise is prevented.
