PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joint material, in which there is no problem of peeling and warpage, and a surface finishing method in the joint material, in which a part is left even after the curing of a solidifying material such as resin mortar. SOLUTION: The joint material 1, which is composed of a base material 2 having an adhesive layer on a rear and a surface material 6 stuck on the surface of the base material through pressure-sensitive adhesives and in which the base material 2 is constituted of a water absorbing material, or the joint sealing material 1, which comprises the base material 2 having the adhesive layer on the rear and the surface material 6 stuck on the surface of the base material through the pressure-sensitive adhesives and in which the base material 2 is configured of the water absorbing material, is fixed onto the surface of the building or the building material, the upper section of the joint sealing material is coated with a solidifying material, the solidifying material is leveled in approximately the thickness of the joint sealing material 1, the surface material 6 is removed before the curing of the solidifying material, and the base material 2 is left even after the curing of the solidifying material.
