PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the temperature of the eardrum precisely by correcting an error caused by warming of an optical fiber itself of a clinical thermometer when the clinical thermometer is put to an ear. SOLUTION: The temperature of the eardrum y is calculated using the expression y=ax2+bx+cz2+dz+exz+f. In this expression, y is the temperature of the eardrum at the tip of an optical fiber part 11, z is the detected output of infrared rays going out from the end of the main body 10 of the optical fiber part 11, and x is the detected output of the temperature of the optical fiber part 11 itself. The parameters a, b, c, d, e and f are found from the data collected by putting this optical fiber type eardrum thermometer to an ear- shaped blackbody furnace 20 whose structure is similar to that of an ear, changing the temperature and actually measuring the values of x, y and z.
