PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment apparatus which is easy to operate and can carbonize a waste, such as organic materials recovered in factories, etc., hygienically and efficiently without polluting the environment and without being damaged. SOLUTION: A pipe conveyor 3, which is formed by installing a flexible endless conveying means 4 comprising a number of receptacles 4a, such as blades or buckets for scraping an object to be treated, connected to each other at certain distances with an endless stringy body 4b in an externally heatable cylinder so as to enable the means 4 to circulate and move therein, is formed into an endless conveying route having a meandered heating cylinder section 2 comprising straight pipes and bent pipes; in the endless conveying route, both a supply section 6 and a discharge section 7 for the object to be treated are installed; a casing wall 1a is formed so as to surround the heating cylinder section 2; a partition wall 1b is installed at between the casing wall and the heating cylinder to form a zigzag hot air channel 1c to form a heat treatment oven; and a hot-air generation oven is connected to the vicinity of the bottom of the heat treatment oven to externally heat the heating cylinder section with hot air.
