PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust printing positions by using a printing medium of low light reflectance. SOLUTION: A printer is provided with a platen 19 supporting a printing medium 14 and a plurality of printing heads 17 for printing on a printing medium 14 placed on the platen 19, and the operation of printing carried out while moving the printing heads 17 in the direction almost vertical to the carrying direction of the printing medium 14 and then feeding out the printing medium 14 is repeated. In that case, the printer is provided with a white area 19a formed on the platen 19, an adjustment pattern printing means for printing adjustment patterns on the printing medium 14 placed on the white area 19a, a sensing means for sensing the printed adjustment patterns and an adjustment means for adjusting the printing positions based on information sensed by the sensing means.
