PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device having an inflation fluid for inflating a vehicle occupant protection device. SOLUTION: An inflator 22 supplying an inflation fluid for inflating an inflatable vehicle occupant protection device 14 has a vessel 30 storing the pressurized inflation fluid, while the vessel 30 has an outlet passage 80 for letting out the inflation fluid. A rupturable closure member 92 fixed to the vessel 30 blocks a flow of the inflation fluid passing the outlet passage 80. A support body 100 for the rupturable closure member 93 partitions a chamber 110 adjacent to the rupturable closure member 92. The rupturable closure member 92 has a first part 122 deformed into the chamber 110 by pressure of the inflation fluid, and a second ring-like part 124 surrounding the first part 122. An initiator 98 shears the first part 122 from the second part 124 to break the closure member 92 when operating.
