PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a halogenated benzene compound useful for producing a compound containing a radioactive halogen in the molecule by reacting a specific organometallic compound with a halide ion in the presence of a specified semiconductor catalyst in a solvent. SOLUTION: An organometallic compound of formula I M is R13Sn group (R1 is a 1-8C alykyl), R13Si group, R13Ge group, (R2CO2)Hg group [R2 is a 1-3C (halo)alkyl], ClHg group or (R3O)2B group (R3 is H or a 1-3C alkyl); n is 0-4; n is 0-4; m is 0 or 1; A is fluorine, nitro, cyano, a 1-8C alkyl or the like; Q is an organic residue} is reacted with a halide ion (preferably a radioisotope) of the formula X- (X is a halogen) under a light-irradiating condition in the presence of a semiconductor catalyst having a photocatalystic activities (e.g. titanium oxide, strontium titanate and tungsten oxide) in a solvent (e.g. a single aprotic polar solvent such as acetonitrile, or a mixed solvent thereof with water) to provide the objective compound of formula II.
