PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently decompose/remove hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan compounds in wastewater or sludge by the addition of a peroxide and nitrate ions which is interlocked with the transfer of the wastewater or the sludge when the wastewater or sludge containing at least one of hydrogen sulfide and the mercaptan compounds is deodorized. SOLUTION: When applied to a pumping plant, sewage which flowed down naturally through a sewage drain passes through an inflow gate 101 and a screen apparatus 102, is stored in a wastewater pit 103, is pumped up by a storage pump 105, and flows down naturally again through the sewage drain 106. In this process, the actuation signal of the pump 105 sent from a storage pump control part 104 is detected by a deodorant supply pump control part 107, and a deodorant supply pump 108 is actuated. A mixed solution of hydrogen peroxide and sodium nitrate in a deodorant tank 109 is added into the drain 106. In this way, sulfur-containing odor components generated from sewage are removed efficiently.
