PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent vibration and noise caused by a confinement phenomenon of a gear pump. SOLUTION: In this gear pump, a pair of side plates are fitted into a space of a housing and a pair of gears 3, 4 are supported in a gear chamber partitioned between the pair of side plates. A pair of clearance grooves 25, 26 are formed on a side surface of the side plate on a gear side. The high pressure side clearance groove 26 is formed at a place where volume in a confinement region 50 becomes minimum while communication between the confinement region 50 and a discharge chamber 6 is blocked with accompanied by working of the gears 3, 4. A low pressure side clearance groove 25 is formed at a place where the confinement region 50 is released to an intake chamber 5 by shutting communication of an inner volume with both clearance grooves 25, 26 to enlarge an inner volume and make pressure in the confinement region 50 approximately equal to pressure in the intake chamber 5. Return of working fluid from the discharge chamber 6 to the intake chamber 5 can be thereby minimized.
