PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent sliding characteristics and moreover to reduce the wear of members to be combined in a sliding state by mixing ceramic particles and metallic particles in a specified ratio, executing drying, passing the same through a shive and thereafter executing press molding and sintering. SOLUTION: The particles of one or more kinds selected from TiC, ZrC, Cr3C2, NbC, TiN, VN, NbN and ZrN of, by weight, 15 to 90%, one or more kinds of metals selected from Ni, Co and Mo of 10 to 85% and impurities of <=10% are mixed to obtain a cermet material. The cermet material composed of the powdery mixture is dried and is thereafter passed through a shive to properly arrange the grain size of the powdery mixture. The obtd. powder is molded under a prescribed pressure, and this molding is sintered at a decided temp. The average particle size of the ceramics particles is preferably controlled to 0.1 to 15μm. The preferable cermet material is composed of 20 to 60% of TiC particles having the average particle size of 0.1 to 15μm, 40 to 80% of the metal of Ni and Mo and <=10% of impurities.
