PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To express a cross-stitch seam by a single ring for better appearance in a hole stitch seam applied to the periphery of a hole such as buttonhole by providing a cross-stitch and a diagonal cross-stitch which has a width and a pitch about the same as this cross-stitch and approximately overlaps with the cross-stitch. SOLUTION: In the diagonal cross-stitch formation among hole stitch seams, the needle dropping points l, 2, 3,... of the diagonal cross-stitch are formed so as to position on either a straight line connecting the lower top points of the cross-stitch seam (a) or a straight line connecting the upper top points of the cross-stitch seam. Among the seams formed by each needle dropping points, a seam sewn in parallel direction, for instance, from 1 to 2, from 3 to 4, and so on form bases of small triangles formed at the tops of the diagonal cross-stitch seam, and the tops of the cross-stitch seam are positioned in the middle points in the bases of these triangles. Thereby, a cross-stitch seam by a single ring can be expressed to obtain a hole stitch seam of good appearance.
