PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a para-substituted halogenated benzene derivative under an industrially advantageous mild condition by using an inexpensive zeolite and an additive in high para-selectivity. SOLUTION: This method for halogenating a monosubstituted benzene derivative by bringing the monosubstituted benzene derivative into contact with a halogen in the presence of a zeolite in liquid phase to halogenate the benzene derivative is carried out in the coexistence of an aliphatic nitro compound in a liquid phase. Preferably, the halogen is chlorine, the monosubstituted benzene derivative is (1-bromoethyl)benzene and/or (2-bromoethyl)benzene, and the zeolite is an L-type zeolite.
