PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair cosmetic which can impart an excellent setting force not deteriorated even under high humidity to hair, give good gloss, moisture and flexibility to the hair, improve combability, and finish the hair in an improved natural touch by including a synthetic polymer for setting hair and a partial oxidative decomposition product of keratin or its salt. SOLUTION: This hair cosmetic contains (A) a synthetic polymer for setting hair and (B) a compound of the formula [R is the amino acid side chain of a peptide originated from keratin; (a) is 0 or 1; (m) is 2 to 20; (n) is 20 to 200; M is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, ammonia or the like]. The component A includes anionic synthetic polymers and cationic synthetic polymers, such as an acrylic resin alkanolamine, and is preferably contained in an amount of 0.1 to 10 wt.%. The component B is obtained by hydrolyzing keratin constituting wool, feather, hair and so on with an alkali agent, oxidizing the hydrolysis solution with an oxidizing agent, and then adjusting the oxidized solution to pH 3 to 4, and is preferably contained in an amount of 0.1 to 20 wt.%.
