SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of measuring parameter characterizing strip tension at coiling, comparing said parameter with preliminarily set value, determining strip length on drum coiled without slipping, comparing it with preliminarily set value of strip length providing reliable engagement with drum. If actual value of strip length exceeds predetermined one and difference of actual and real values characterizing strip tension at coiling also is more than predetermined difference value, shaping rollers are drawn apart in order to eliminate influence of circumferential effort of shaping rollers upon coiled strip. EFFECT: possibility for determining time moment of reliable adherence of strip with coiler drum, reduced length of defect portion of strip. 2 dwg, 1 tbl
