PURPOSE: A method of generating defected area management data of recorded media is provided to perform a linear replacement for defect data when read data is non-motion picture data, and to store position information only of a defect sector by deciding whether the read data has a defect if the read data is motion picture data, so as to selectively write new data in a normal sector except an abnormal sector while re-writing the new data. CONSTITUTION: If a user inputs a read command for a predetermined section(S40), a detection signal processor decodes data to check whether read data is motion picture data or non-motion picture data(S41). If the read data is the motion picture data, the processor checks whether the data reading is completed(S43). The processor reads a target sector(S45) to check whether more than two PID(Physical Identification) values having defects are generated(S47). If three PID values are generated, a T-PDL(Primary Defect List) decider sets a target sector where next read data is written, and moves to an address of the target sector(S49). If less than one PID value is generated, the T-PDL decider checks whether more than 4 error rows exist in the one unit sector(S51). If the sector is normal and a reading process for the demanded section is completed, the reading process of the motion picture data is finally completed.
