PURPOSE: A method for selecting a beam of a multi beam array antenna and a transceiving apparatus using the same are provided to enable a proper application to be made according to a time varying signal environment, such as a mobile communication. CONSTITUTION: A received signal vector(x) of an array antenna is formed by applying a low band frequency shift and demodulation to a signal received from each antenna element. The received signal vector and predetermined gain vectors(w1,w2,...wN) are subject to an Euclidean inner product whereby output received signals(y1,y2,...yN) of the array antenna are generated. Signals received from all terminals within a cover range are processed with a signal discriminator which is designed according to a pertinent signal environment, thereby separating and extracting respective terminal signals. The largest signal is selected from a plurality of received signals with respect to respective terminals. The gain vector value is set so that a signal phase of a reference antenna element cannot be changed.
