PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arm member manufacturing method for efficiently and cost-favorably manufacturing an arm member with a fitting part formed of an expanded part in the width direction which is integrated with a part in the axial direction of a bar-like member body. SOLUTION: A plate extrusion stock 100 having a projecting part 136 along the axial direction of extrusion integrated with an upper wall surface part at a part 130 corresponding to a fitting part is prepared. A cut article 1 with a fitting part forming part 35 integrated therewith having a projecting part 36 formed on an upper wall surface part in the part in the axial direction of the bar-like member body 10 is obtained by slicing this extrusion stock 100. The fitting part forming part 35 is plastically deformed and expanded in the width direction by applying the compressive force in a direction to reduce the height of the projecting part 36, and a fitting part is formed thereby.
