PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera which securely records picture data photographed through the use of a snapshot (consecutive shot) function in a preservation memory and to provide a photographing method. SOLUTION: When a battery becomes low battery (power drop) during snap shooting (U4), a snapshot mode is released and subsequent photographing is inhibited (U10). A photographed picture left in a primary memory is preserved/ stored in a compact flash (preservation memory) (U11). Thus, the whole photographed pictures can securely be preserved in the preservation memory while power is left in the battery. A mode is changed to a regular photographing mode, and the regular photographing mode can be executed (U12 to U14). The picture can additionally be taken while battery voltage is sufficient for regular photographing.
