PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light receiving unit which can be used commonly in a device or an equipment utilizing a light, positioned easily, and made compact. SOLUTION: A light receiving element 2 and a light receiving lens 3 are mounted to the top face of a rectangular parallelopiped MID 1(molded interconnection device), and electronic components (chip components such as resistors or capacitors, and IC 5 or the like for signal processing) comprising a signal processing means for processing the output signal, etc., of the light receiving element 2 are mounted to the side surface thereof. Furthermore, terminals 6 for connection are provided on the bottom opposite to the top surface of the MID 1 so as to form a light receiving unit A. Thus, the light receiving element 2 and light receiving lens 3 can be positioned accurately. In addition, this unit can be used commonly for the light receiving part of a light scattering type particle detection sensor such as a dust sensor, a smoke sensor or a smoke detector, or a device or equipment utilizing light such as a photoelectric switch, permitting generalization and reduction of cost.
