PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader having satisfactory reading performance and capable of superior reading of an original by using the same optical system in both of an original moving exposure mode, in which the original moving on a slit exposure glass in a noncontact state is read, and an optical system moving exposure mode in which the original placed on a platen glass is read. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with an original moving exposure means for reading the original D moving on a slit exposing glass 13 by using the stopped optical system below the glass 13, and an optical system moving exposure means for reading the original placed on an original platen glass 11 by moving the optical system below the glass 11. In this case, a plate thickness T2 of the glass 13 is made larger than a plate thickness T1 of the glass 11.
