摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the contrast ratio of an optically compensated bend(OCB) mode liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display device, which displays by utilizing combination of a liquid crystal cell comprising a liquid crystal layer 3 enclosed between a pair of substrates 1, 2 and a pair of phase compensation plates 4, 5 arranged on the outside of the liquid crystal layer 3, a wavelength dependence compensation plate 150 is arranged between the phase compensation plate 4 and a polarizing plate 11. In the OCB mode, by utilizing the wavelength dependence compensation plate of which the retardation increases or decreases with respect to the wavelength, the elevation of brightness in the case of a black display generated by the wavelength dependence of the liquid crystal layer and the optical retardation compensation plate is suppressed and the improvement of the contrast of the liquid crystal display device is ensured.
