PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a duplex system that gives no adverse effects on a subordinate unit and to provide a highway interface circuit that prevents occurrence of pulling out of synchronism. SOLUTION: This duplex system has a 1st unit 1#0 and a 2nd unit 1#1 of the same configuration, one of which is operated in an active state and the other of which is operated in a standby state. Each of the 1st unit and the 2nd unit is provided with a 1st selection section (5#i(i=0n1)) that selects own unit to be a 1st active state on the occurrence of a prescribed fault in the other unit, a 2nd selection section (6#i(i=0n1)) that selects own unit to be in an active state, when the 1st selection section selects the 1st active state on the occurrence of a prescribed fault in the other unit, selects its own unit to be at a standby state when no prescribed fault takes place in the other unit, the 1st selection selects the 1st active state, and the other unit indicates the selection of the active state, and informs the other unit about the selection of its own unit to be at standby state, and a register (7#i(i=0n1)) that stores either of the active state and the standby state selected by the 2nd selection section.
