PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure the thickness of a measuring part without destructing a measuring target, by moving a metal to the measuring part of a non-metallic member, and thereafter by putting an electric or magnetic induction element on the measuring part of the nonmetal member from the other side of a measuring surface. SOLUTION: A metal 2 is put into a vessel 1, and an electromagnetic induction element 3 is put and allowed to abut on a measuring part from the outside of the vessel 1, and the thickness is measured. The vessel 1 is formed from polyethylene terephthalate, and has a narrow opening part 1a. As the metal 2 put into the vessel 1, powdery iron, namely magnetite sand is used. When the electromagnetic induction element 3 is allowed to abut on the measuring part of the vessel 1, generation of an eddy current caused by approach of the electromagnetic induction element 3 to the powdery metal 2 in the vessel 1 and a change of a transmission amplitude of the electromagnetic induction element 3 are detected, to thereby obtain the distance between the powdery metal 2 and the electromagnetic induction element 3. Namely, the distance between the powdery metal 2 and the electromagnetic induction element 3 is the thickness of the measuring part of the vessel 1.
