PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide equipment and a method for multimedia data communication with which degradation of communication efficiency can be suppressed. SOLUTION: In an error code encoding control part 105, the error rate of a communication line is analyzed from error occurrence rate information reported from a received data analytic part 117 in a receiving part 110, a divided bit length for error encoding of each of encoded data is controlled so as to shorten the divided bit length when the error occurrence rate is great or to extend the divided bit length when the error occurrence rate is small, and packet data to opposite equipment 150 are prepared.
