摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain electrolytic solution leakage and the infiltration of gas of air or water and thereby to reduce risk of a short circuit by forming a gas barrier layer, containing a silicon oxide on a case having a battery element received. SOLUTION: A case for receiving a battery element preferably comprises two film-like and sheet-like members for catching the thin plate-like battery element. The case has a gas barrier layer 7 containing a silicon oxide. The sheet-like member 6 constituting the case is composed by stacking a base material layer 8 formed of a resin on the gas barrier layer 7. The base material layer 8 is stacked on the outside surface of the gas barrier layer 7 and it is also desirable that two of the base material layers are stacked on both the outside surfaces thereof. The gas barrier layer 7 can be formed on the base material layer 8 by means of, for instance, vacuum deposition, CVD, spattering, ion plating. The gas barrier layer 7 contains a silicon oxide, desirably at 50 wt.% or higher of the entire gas barrier layer 7, particularly desirably at 70 wt.% or higher thereof, or yet particularly desirably at 90 wt.% or higher thereof.
