The invention is related to creating of data transfer connections between end points, the connections being used for all kinds of communication such as speech, video, file transfer, facsimile transfer, and other kinds of communication. The invention combines circuit switching of connections and adjustability of the bandwidths of the connections. The invention provides a switching element, which is able to switch connections having different bandwidths. The invention also provides a system for transmission of data, which provides circuit switched connections between end points, in which the connections may have different bandwidths. The desired bandwidth for a connection can be requested during the setup of a connection. Preferably, the bandwidth of a connection can also be changed during the connection. |
