PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium whose dropout is reduced and whose corrosion resistance is improved by eliminating the actualization of extra fine defects and more increasing the adhesive strength between a magnetic layer and a protective film at the time of forming the protective film. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for the magnetic recording medium is constituted to form the protective film 4 from a reaction gas incorporating hydrocarbon on a ferromagnetic metallic thin film 2 deposited on a nonmagnetic base material 1 by the plasma CDV process, in which positive DC voltage V1 and negative DC voltage V2 are alternately applied to the raction gas.
