PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a positioning work efficiently, by providing a means capable of recognition by either of visual and auditory senses, and by providing either or both of a horizontal sensor and a vertical one. SOLUTION: In this detector which is used in a positioning work of a civil engineering constructor or the like by using irradiation of a laser beam, the laser beam diffused by transmission or reflection is captured by a light-receiving unit comprising plural semiconductors. In this case, the quantity of the beam received by the plural semiconductors arranged on a light irradiation region and divided symmetrically relative to right and left sides and/or upper and lower sides is connected to a voltage conversion circuit, and voltage outputs at the time of signals having the same intensity are set equally, and an outputted alternating-current signal is amplified and converted into a direct- current signal by a rectifying means. Thereafter, a differential output by a differential amplification means is inputted into a window comparator. The inputted signal is outputted by a value determined by the width of a threshold, and a means capable of recognition by either of visual and auditory senses corresponding to an output difference value is provided, and either or both of a horizontal sensor and a vertical one are provided.
