PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and stably use a spare disk by arranging a RAID controller for executing the rotation stop control of a motor when a disk device is a spare disk device. SOLUTION: When the power source of the device is turned on, the operation time of the device is counted by the timer 5 of the RAID controller 4. When it is judged that a fixed time elapses after turning on the power source of the device by the counting of the timer 5, it is judged whether the disk device connected to the controller 4 is the normal one or the spare disk device 7 based on the rotation control program of the controller 14. When the disk device is judged to be the spare disk device 7, the stop command of the motor is issued to the disk control part 10 of the spare disk device 7 by the controller 11 and the disk control part 10 stops the motor 9 after receiving the stop command of the motor 9.
