PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce breaking accidents in a resin coating device that are caused by a rapid change in the linear velocity occurring for example at the point of transmission from a lead-use preform to a product-use optical fiber preform at the rising of linear velocity for producing an optical fiber. SOLUTION: The value of a specific linear velocity V2 is set midway from a standstill at the start of production to a normal linear velocity V3 for production; in the section of a rising linear velocity from the specific V2 to the normal V3, the value of the rising ratio of a resin feeding pressure relative to the rising ratio of the linear velocity is set smaller than the ratio of the resin feeding pressure against a predetermined linear velocity in the normal liner velocity V3 for production; and, while the resin feeding pressure is increased as the liner velocity rises, resin is supplied to a resin coating device and applied onto an optical fiber.
