PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording/reproducing device capable of protecting data even when the device is fallen to cause abnormality in an optical pickup and a magnetic head. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an acceleration sensor for detecting that the whole device is fallen. When the device is fallen, the output of the acceleration sensor becomes a prescribed level or above, the detection output of the fall is outputted, and a fall detection flag is set. At a write-in time, when it is judged that the device is fallen from the fall detection flag, whether or not the abnormality occurs in the optical pickup is judged according to whether or not focusing, tracking are normal, and a test pattern is written in a prescribed area. Next, it is judged that whether or not the test pattern is reproduced, whether or not the abnormality occurs in the magnetic head is judged. As such a write-in test result, when it is judged that the data can correctly be written, the write-in is executed, and when it is judged the data can not correctly be written, an alarm is displayed.
