PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve wear resistance of a tape contacting surface of a magnetic head when it was made to correspond to high density recording by narrowing track width. SOLUTION: The magnetic head contains a magnetic core constituted of a magnetic material in which a pair of core halves 11, 12 are joined by being butted against each other so as to constitute a magnetic gap 13 at one end of a tape sliding surface 10a side to be in contact with a magnetic recording medium. The magnetic gap 13 is constituted of a nonmagnetic film and metallic magnetic films formed on both surfaces thereof. Further in order to form the tape sliding surface, glass 19 is charged in track width regulating grooves 14, 15 which are machined at both sides of the magnetic gap along a tape sliding direction in order to regulate track width of the magnetic gap. The glass 19 charged in the track width regulating grooves is constituted of glass in which alumina is dispersed.
