PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily discriminate a character part and a color halftone part in an object picture from each other by judging the object picture based on the outputs of a means for discriminating the edge part of the object picture and a means for discriminating color components in the neighborhood of the edge part. SOLUTION: A picture processor is provided with a judging means (black character correcting circuit 80) for judging an object picture based on the outputs of a means (black edge generation circuit 40) for discriminating the edge part of the object picture and a means (image area discriminating circuit 70) for discriminating color components in the neighborhood of the edge part. In this processor, a luminance signal Y is a signal for obtaining the edge signal of a black character and after the signal is inverted to by Y' by an inverter 30, it is edge-extracted with Laplacian by the circuit 40 to output KE. The circuit 70 judges a bright chromatic color and its neighborhood to be image areas from a W signal and a Y signal to output an image area judging signal Z. The circuit 80 obtains a CMYK signal from an RGB signal and adds correcting signals E1 and E2 to the CMYK signal to output to an output device. |
