The ball cage for a constant velocity universal joint is produced from a blank in the form of annular segments (2) of a sphere. This has windows (4) around its equator forming ball seatings with contact surfaces (5) which cooperate with balls in the joint. Annular functional surfaces (9) near the outer edge of the cage cooperate with the journal and a second set of annular functional surfaces (7) near the inner edge cooperates with the hub. The novelty is that at least one set of functional surfaces is raised above the surrounding surface.
