The printing device has a counter-pressure surface (10) for a recording web (12) and a printing head (16) mounted at the end of a pivoted carrier (18), which pivots about an axis (22) parallel to the counter-pressure surface and perpendicular to the printed line, under control of a pivot drive (36) employing an electric motor (38) and an intermediate transmission (42,44). The latter has a drive spline rotating about an axis (40) parallel to the pivot axis, positioned along the perpendicular line between the latter and the counter-pressure surface, engaging a cog segment attached to the pivoted carrier.
