PURPOSE: A portable computer with a back light control function is provided to easily sense a folding state of a display panel by using a latch structure of a display panel. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a main body(120), a back light controller, a light emission diode(130), an optical transistor(132), an LCD panel(110), a back light, a latch bar(122), an optical transistor(132), a latch bar(122), and a latch hole(124). A photo coupler including the light emission diode(130) and the optical transistor(132) is connected to the back light controller controlling the back light. The optical signal, generated from the light emission diode(130), is transmitted to the optical transistor(132) if the latch bar(122) installed at the LCD panel(110) is not latched to the latch hole(124). The optical transistor(132) generates electrical signals according to the received optical signals and inputs the electric signals to the back light controller. So the back light controller senses that the LCD is currently unfolded. The optical signal is blocked by the latch bar(122) and so is not transmitted to the optical transistor(132) if the latch bar is latched at the hole(124). So the electric signals to the back light controller are blocked and the back light controller senses that the LCD panel is folded.
